WYOMING SUNSET
A hazy sunset brings yet another day to an end in Yellowstone National Park.
Despite or perhaps in light of the immense beauty of Yellowstone National Park, finding an area to shoot sunset may be a difficult task. I have always wanted to capture an erupting geyser spraying mist against a setting sun, but with the Great Fountain Geyser having eruption intervals between 9-15 hours, attempting to time such an occurrence during the golden hours would require luck I did not have. However, the geyser’s perfectly terraced pools practically beg to reflect a brilliant colorful sky. This evening was the culmination of a day of persistent rain. The clouds had only began to recede about an hour prior to sunset, which allowed a sliver of clear sky for the sunlight to cut through. An extra layer of haze, along with the steam billowing from the geyser, created a fiery sunset before dark descended. Yellowstone is filled with iconic scenes, but I think intimate photos such as this one still manage to capture the beauty that surrounds it.
